NEW Delhi: Rajya Sabha on Wednesday outfaced a vigorous debate over the VVIP chopper deal after the recently marked government-Congress ceasefire in Parliament. Apparently, this may connote small anticipations for the passage of the much awaited key bills, the Bankruptcy Code Bill and the GST Bill in the days left of the budget session in Opposition-dominated Rajya Sabha.
After the departure of the Congress MPs while defence minister Manohar Parrikar’s answer to the debate, all the senior party members, which include the floor leaders as well arranged an instantaneous meeting where a decision has been made in which they will be protesting strongly against “highly objectionable tone and tenure of speeches made by Manohar Parrikar and Subramanian Swamy” from Thursday, said a party source.
Also, “demand an apology” from the doublet have decided as well, added the sources.
“There was an agreement between the senior government representatives and Congress floor leaders that both sides would conduct themselves in a responsible manner and cooperate with each other in passing bills. But the deliberately irresponsible and unrealistically threatening and shockingly unproductive manner in which Manohar Parrikar and Subramanian Swamy spoke in the House also meant the two together have ambushed the agreed peace pact for smooth conduct of Parliament. Now, the knives are out and it is not going to be a one-way street in the Houses,” a senior Congress leader said. Parrikar pledged to accuse those whose names were written in the court order in Italy, he replied.
The development is not going to hit only the bills such as Bankruptcy Code Bill but will also “sign off any further chances of negotiations on the GST Bill”, as per the leader. Ample numbers are there in the Lok Sabha to resist the Opposition aggression while the government will do its part at the receiving end in the Rajya Sabha.
