An auto-population facility has been rolled out by the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) for taxpayers who are applying for an additional GST registration under the same Permanent Account Number (PAN). Taxpayers who have an active GSTIN under the same PAN can utilise this facility, whether they are applying for another registration in the same State or in a different State.
Under the new process, the applicant can select the option “Yes – Auto-Populate Details” in Part B. Once this option is chosen, the Primary Authorised Signatory (PAS) of the existing GSTIN must give consent through OTP verification. After successful OTP verification, eligible registration details already available in the GST system will be automatically populated in the new registration application.
The auto-populated details will not be locked, allowing the applicant to review and edit them as necessary before saving and continuing with the registration process.
GSTN has mentioned that the pertinent promoters or partners will be notified via the specified SMS and email after successful verification.
The objective of the feature is to reduce repeated data entry for taxpayers who have already registered under the same PAN and desire another GST registration. As per GSTN, the new feature will make the registration procedure faster, more convenient, and less repetitive by using information already available in the GST system.
This feature is especially beneficial for businesses that are expanding operations and require an additional GST registration. They will not need to re-enter all of their existing registration details from the beginning. However, the process will still require OTP-based consent from the Primary Authorised Signatory of the existing GSTIN. Once this is verified, the system will use the available data to pre-fill eligible fields in the new application.
