Government to Make Double Efforts to roll-out GST Bill in 2016: Jaitley

The Indian Finance Minister Mr. Arun Jaitley said, the government will roll-out new taxation regime, GST by just making “certainly” double efforts in 2016 and he is in “continuous touch” with opposition party to coax them to cooperate.

Mr. Jaitley said, “I hope that in the next session (of Parliament), the GST (Goods and Services Tax) will make headway.”

He told the reports, “After all, it was a Bill brought by them (Congress). For political reasons, they have done a volte-face but they should not be doing it indefinitely”.

FM, Mr. Jaitley further said, “I am in continuous touch with them and I intend continuing that. It is part of my job to continue to persuade them”.

Talking about the GST, it is an indirect tax regime since independence that will create a single market for one dozen states levies. The Constitution Amendment Bill has been stuck in the Parliament for so many years due to a political deadlock.

Moreover, the BJP had stuck the UPA system and this regime had failed in the Parliament therefore, the Congress has refused to back the Goods and Services Tax that proposed by the ruling BJP government. When asked to him about the passage of GST Bill then Jaitley told the bill was not as an income tax and it was not compulsory to introduce bill with force.

He said that it is the first priority of our government for the New Year and along with creating a rationalizing with the direct taxes and making easy process for doing business.

Jaitley said, “GST is not an income tax (measure) and it does not have to come on only on first April of every year. It is a transactional tax and so it can come even in the middle of the year”.

He further added some words in his speech, “I had hoped that we complete the process for GST this year. But it was plain and simple obstructionism of the Congress party which has prevented that.

In fact, a national party adopting a distortionist role and getting a sadistic pleasure in stalling a reform which could add to India’s GDP is a disappointment”.
