The deadline for the tax audit report has been extended by the Finance Ministry. The government has released the official notification.
30th September 2026 was the deadline to submit the report for AY 2026-27, but after receiving multiple representations from tax professionals and business associations, the ministry opted to extend the deadline to 21st October 2026.
Beyond the deadline extension for providing the tax audit report, the last date for ITR filing for taxpayers requiring an audit has also been extended to 21st November 2026, as requested by the organisations.
Problems are being raised by the organisations, including delayed release of ITR utilities, increased compliance requirements for non-corporate entities by ICAI, change in the deadline of ITR filing of non-audit cases, huge verification and reconciliation in tax audit, climatic issues in some areas, etc.
Also, the associations mentioned technical issues in the e-filing portal because the professionals are encountering problems in downloading and reconciling the data available via AIS and TISC, login issues, digital signature problems, etc.

An extension is also sought due to the overlap of other statutory compliances of MCA and GST.
Before the ministry, more than 45 organisations placed their representation for relief. The associations include Rajasthan Tax Consultants Association, MP Tax Consultants Association, Begusarai Tax Practitioners Association, Ludhiana Tax Bar Association, Karnataka Taxpayers Association, Jalandhar CA Association, etc.
