The income tax portal is the toughest interface between the income tax department and the assessee of the country. Besides allowing e-filing of the ITR for users the portal has been practised with the intention of executing the other work concerning tax assessments like monitoring the notice provided through the council, giving specific responses to Notices, checking refund status queries, rectification, grievance redressal, filing of CIT appeal, etc.

The latest income tax portal was launched through the income tax department dated 7th June 2021 through the urge to provide the assessee with an easier and modern seamless experience on the portal. It has the intention to relocate and transition from the previous income tax portal to the latest e-filing portal. From June 1, 2021, to June 6, 2021, a blackout period has been announced in which there are no operations of the website which shall be available to the assessee.

The latest e-filing portal 2.0 (incometax.gov.in) poses several specifications to make the e-filing experience easier and user friendly. There are some latest specifications which consist of quick processing of ITR, the introduction of new dashboards, free and interactive ITR preparation software, the establishment of new call centre, innovative mobile application, upgraded online tax payment system, etc.

With respect to the older income tax website that was easier still efficient in executing the needed chores. The upgraded income tax portal is facing some specific technical issues while performing the operation as of its initial phase and is urged to be streamlined in a shorter time.

But the temporary in-nature issues are challenging for all the shareholders as they are not able to execute some of the compliance operations in the given period. Infosys, the service provider in the meeting with Nirmala Sitharaman dated 22/06/2021 ensured that the problem that arises during e-filing in the 2.0 portal shall get solved in the coming days and the portal shall be implemented as planned.

Major Problems Faced by Stakeholders on New Income Tax Portal

  • The speed of the latest e-filing portal 2.0 is acknowledged at a slower pace and wants to be addressed immediately. This is due to the filing season for the income tax returns for the FY 2020-21 shall urge and will witness quickly raised traffic.
  • In the current time, the e-filing portal 2.0 permits to furnish the income tax return 1,2,3 Easily download the latest PDF format of ITR 1 SAHAJ form, ITR 2 and ITR (Income Tax Return) 3 form for AY 2020-21 in a single click on Blog.saginfotech.com, and 4 only while the income tax returns 5,6, and 7 shall not be furnished.
  • The taxpayers are not required to re-register their digital signatures upon the latest portal. Indeed there are various taxpayers who cannot determine the choice to enroll their digital signatures on the portal.
  • There is an issue in the auto-population of the information of the taxpayers. The information either is populated in a wrong way or is not at all populated.
  • The choice of Forget password has not been enabled. Thus, if the taxpayer enters the incorrect password various times then the corresponding accounts shall get blocked.
  • The taxpayers are seeing the issues in uploading their submissions towards the tax notices online.
  • There are various issues in the filing of the forms like Form 1 for the Equalisation Levy (EL).

There are various problems like the non-availability of Vivad se Vishwas compliance, unavailability of the Forms 15CA/CB, hardships in the furnishing of the Income-tax appeals, etc and indeed seems to be a hardship for the stakeholders.

There are various associations that previously directed these problems to the Finance ministry asking for redress. It has urged that these technical issues which are temporary in nature, will be addressed before time, and the latest e-filing portal 2.0 will give the highest user-friendly experience in the future.

  1. This Portal 2 has still many glitches and causing a lot of inconvenience and waste of time and energy. Portal not allowing the filing of HUF returns. DSC registration causing alarming problems . Please take note of these and represent before the authorities
