The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has today issued a notification revealing the due dates for the filing of GST returns for the period of FY 2018-19 (between July 2018 to March 2019).
As per the notice, the last date for filing the quarterly GST return for July-September 2018 period is 31 October. The due date for filing the October-December 2018 quarterly return is 31 January 2019.
The due date for filing consolidated GST return by businesses with annual turnover above Rs 1.5 crore has been revised to the 11th of the following month. At present, the last date for filing final sales return or GSTR-1 for a particular month is the 10th of the following month.
The notification says that a business will have to file the return providing the details of outward supplies (sales) of a month by the 11th of the following month, for the July 2018 – March 2019 period.
Businesses whose turnover is not more than Rs 1.5 crore are required to file quarterly returns, including the GSTR-1 sales return by the last date of the succeeding month for a particular quarter. Based on that, the due date for filing July-September quarterly return is 31 October, while that of October-December period is 31 January 2019. Similarly, the due date for filing quarterly GSTR-1 for January-March 2019 is 30 April.
The monthly sales returns (GSTR-3B) filing along with payment of taxes must be done by the 20th of the following month during the period between July 2018 to March 2019.
The goods & service tax (GST), which was implemented in July last year, has so far proven to be a reliable tax regime that is contributing towards the growth of the Indian economy at the local and international platforms. GST return is a record of the sales/purchases made by a registered taxpayer or entity during a tax period. The rules are different for different types of taxpayers, based on their annual turnover threshold limit.
