Those who do not have the Aadhar number will not proceed with the latest goods and services GST enrollment. The authorities seek to check that the GST is linked with the biometric details with the live photograph of the registrant so as to clarify the GST fraud.

Linked to Biometrics for GST Registrations

A new GST should seek an Aadhaar-like process to enroll the new ones which can be done online by using the live photo, use of biometrics, and verification of documents, suggested by the GST department.

“Such facilities [registration with biometric details] can be provided at banks, post offices, and GST Seva Kendras (GSKs) just like Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) or Aadhaar Seva Kendras (ASKs). The GSKs can work on the pattern of Passport Seva Kendras to provide new registration facilities with required checks on fake registration,”

This procedure is under investigation to make sure that there is no fraud done, said the 2nd official “Annually, 18-19 lakh new GST registrationsGet to know the complete GST registration procedure online on the Indian government GST portal official website. We have explained by the actual screenshot of every step take place, but at the end of the year only 30% of them are left. About 13-14 lakh GST-registered entities vanish. Most of them are fly-by-night operators, they create bogus firms, claim an input tax credit (ITC) without actually supplying goods and services,”

The council has organized a meet when the nationwide crackdown with respect to GST fraud has launched and where 48 people have been arrested which consists of women and 3 Chartered accountants and in 10 days 648 cases to identify the 2385 fake entities has been recorded.

“The new system is proposed for honoring the honest, who will not face any difficulty in registration with Aadhaar numbers. It will be difficult only for those who want to con the system,”

There are 2 measures urged by the law committee which settles the menace of fake GST invoices and also ensures “ease of doing business” for loyal liberal registration, easy GST refunds Get to know about official GST refund process under GST regime as finalized by the GST Council. The council has indeed said that these steps should be talks with states and with other members prior to getting conducted.

“A fresh registrant must go for compulsory physical verification and personal identification in case he or she opts for non-Aadhaar authentication based registration process and does not have income-tax return supported adequate financial capability. In such a case, the applicant may have to submit a recommendation letter by two taxpayers of adequate reliability,”

As per the credentials, a “trustworthy” petitioner is provided in 7 working days.

“A jurisdictional officer, satisfied with the credentials verification, would waive some or all the restriction. Also, a certain class of applicant (who appear riskier) shall be required to undergo in-person for verification at GSKs,”

“The government has been taking several measures to curb fraud in ITC claims for GST. Several measures have been implemented; auto-population of GST return forms Know the online procedure of filing GST returns in India. We provide each and every GST form details according to the taxpayers’ category have been introduced. With e-invoicing, gaps in invoicing and corresponding ITC claims can be further reduced. With the introduction of Aadhaar-like biometric registration, the government is now tightening controls on registrants at the very first point of contact.”

“However, Aadhaar based e-KYC is already required for GST registration. Therefore introducing live photos and live biometrics may become another hurdle for genuine businesses. Especially during Covid times, it may be impractical to implement. This will be an added layer to all the currently required authentications through Aadhaar linked to OTP {one-time password},”
