Jaipuri Quilts are famous across the world and its known for, lightweight, warmth and softness which lure customers from all over the world. Jaipuri Quilts Industry business has been influenced by 50 percent and the demand for Jaipuri Quilts diminished this year, due to the introduction of GST.
Hariom Lashkari, President Jaipuri Quilts Industry Association said that last year the traders purchased excess stock due to the demonetization effect, as they don’t require to purchase the stock this year. Additionally, GST was also introduced from this year, due to that the prices of quilts have enhanced and the demand fell down this year. He further added that, initially, the GST was charged at the rate of 18 percent and 28 percent. On the quilt of up to Rs 1000, the tax was charged at the rate of 18 percent and above Rs 1000 the taxes were charged at the rate of 28 percent, however, the traders requested the government to reduce the tax rates on Jaipuri Quilts. After that, the government reduced the tax rates on Jaipuri Quilts by 5 percent and 12 percent respectively. But the GST rates are still high and the demand for Jaipuri Quilts has been diminishing continuously and the traders are demanding for a common unified rate on Jaipuri Quilts so that the customers can purchase the quilts easily.

Exports Declined
Jaipuri Quilts is also exported in other places such as Japan and London, this year exports business also declined. This year, Jaipuri quilt business is not running properly and traders were facing problems to manage money and unable to prepare the stock.
Speciality of Jaipuri Quilt
Jaipuri Quilt is very light in weight, warmth and made from good quality of cotton. Due to lightweight and easy to fold, it can be easily taken in the journey. Ranging from 250 gm to 500 gm of quilts have been sold in Jaipur. It is available in the price range between Rs 300 to Rs 3000. It is made from three types of cloth – cotton, silk, and velvet. The quilt of Rs 3000 is available in two fabrics – cotton and velvet.

In Jaipur, there are nearly 1.5 to 2 lakh people are connected with the Jaipuri Quilt businesses which also includes labourers, weavers, tailors and so on, per day about 150-200 Jaipuri quilts are prepared by the labourers. All the work of these quilts are done by hands which also includes filling cotton, only the stitching of quilt is done by sewing machine.
Lashkari said that 90 percent of the Jaipuri Quilt business is running from other states, whereas only 10 percent business is from Rajasthan. Jaipuri Quilts is supplied to other states such as Punjab, Bihar, Assam, Punjab, Delhi and so on
