Infosys Once Again Defaulted on New E-Filing Portal Maintenance

Central Govt Summoned Infosys CEO

Finally, the government has started accusing Infosys publicly of not bringing permanent solutions to the tax portal errors and sometimes total outage of it.

In the recent tweets by income tax India, it has openly mentioned that they have called Infosys CEO Salil Parekh to discuss and ask about the latest conditions of the new ITR portal.

FM Deadline to Infosys for Issues in 2.0 ITR Portal

Nirmala Sitharaman, minister of the finance department demanded that the problems facing by Indian taxpayers on current functionalities of the new ITR e-filing portal 2.0 will be solved by the 15th September 2021. The department has summoned the IT company.

However, there was ’emergency maintenance’ done on Sunday evening and the portal went live within the same day but it caused some lags which were undefined by the officials. The government as well as the taxpayers are still questioning why even after two and a half months the lags and issues are causing the portal to crash suddenly. The portal was displaying messages “portal is going through maintenance” which has kept thousands of taxpayers from login into their accounts and filing taxes.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Tarun Bajaj are also closely looking at the situation of the portal and the government also asked the company to join regular meetings to discuss the situation of the portal. The latest tweets were asking Infosys to quickly assess the situation and revert back to the government. The FM as well as the stakeholders were also into this issue and consulted the same day when the portal crashed.

Earlier the government department was asked to explain the issue and glitches within the portal but they refused to explain anything and in return said that the IT vendor is liable for such crashes. The portal was earlier scheduled to launch a few months later but due to the urgency and requirement of the taxpayers, the portal was launched before the date.

Bombay Chartered Accountants’ Society, “The new e-filing portal was expected to replace the existing e-filing portal. It was viewed to create a strong technology backbone by enabling a host of new functionalities to taxpayers, including enhancement of look, feel and user experience. We regret to say that after the expiry of more than two months, the portal is still not functioning and is suffering from several serious problems.”
