GST Officers in Now Cyclone Mode To Act Against Tax Evaders

The government finally made a strict pool of GST officials against the tax evaders who are now liable for prosecution from both state and central GST officials in case they are caught doing unethical GST return filings.

The decision rules out any demographic or administrative implication on the GST officers earlier when they have caught any tax evader. Now both the state and central tax authorities are free to commence intelligence originated enforcement action against those who are red-handed for tax evasion.

Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs member gave this decision to the officials of the department. Under the current assessment procedure, only the state officials were covering the tax issues including the traders having turnover up to 1.5 crores.

The letter in this regard stated that “The authority which initiates such action is empowered to complete the entire process of investigation, issuance of show cause notices, adjudication, recovery, the filing of the appeal, etc., arising out of such action.”

The said decision was taken when the board was concerned regarding the matter came to light when both the state and central tax officers and respected departments were in dilemma to initiate action against a particular trader.

This decision is an alarming factor for all those taxpayers and dealers which were earlier making unethical transactions and also took tax evasion methods. Now the tax department of whomsoever can initiate action against the dealers.
