Government Brings New GST Rule for Businessman Across Nation

The GST Council along with the central government has now mandated that each and every trader will have to display their GSTIN number on their signboards. It also mandated that the registration letter must be displayed in their working premises where the customers can see if the traders have got himself registered or not into the GST.

As per the tax officials statement, “Every taxable person is required to display his GSTIN number on name board or sign board of business and is also required to display his registration certificate in business premises so that a citizen can easily find out whether a person is registered or not.”

Dealers who are utilising composition scheme in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Regime will be required to mention their composite scheme registration certificate in the business premises and are not eligible to collect tax from the taxpayers. The tax official further added that “That is the legal requirement. So that the citizen can find out whether the person from whom he is buying is entitled to collect tax from him or not.”

Once the registration is done at GSTN portal, taxpayers are allotted a 15 – digit number as Goods and Services Taxpayer Identification Number (GSTIN).

Initially, the business entities were provided with a provisional ID for login into the GSTN portal from which they had to complete the registration process within 3 months by mentioning all the information related to the business. After mentioning the information of the business the provisional ID was transferred into GSTIN.

As per the Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia said that, if in a case businesses neither complete the registration process nor create the registration certificate or letter within 3 months (90 days), then the provisional ID will be cancelled. The Goods and Service Tax Regime which replaces VAT, service tax and excise duty have been rolled out from 1st July.
