The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) asked for a standard operating procedure (SOP) for new GST registration to ensure the ease of operating the business. GCCI has sent a presentation for distinct problems pertinent to the GST before the state and central GST departments.
“We understand that checks and balances in availing registration under the GST Acts are important tools to weed out fake entities. However, it is equally necessary that these very checks and balances should not lead to unnecessary hassles for genuine taxpayers,” Deep Thakkar, a chartered accountant and co-chairman of the GCCI indirect tax committee mentioned.
In the presentation of GCCI, it cited that many officers have sought documents that are not easy for businesses to produce, requiring a list of needed documents for GST registration. It indeed cited that biometric verification must be feasible from any state to assure a taxpayer is not required to travel to Gujarat from their home state for the biometric verification.
As per Thakkar at present the biometric authentication procedure is started for 13 states. If any applicant from the other state wishes to enroll for the GST in Gujarat then they shall be assigned a biometric session. The related person shall be required to travel to Gujarat for the session.
With the beginning of the biometric authentication system in a phased manner all over India it recommended that there must be real-time coordination between all states and data sharing should be enabled. Complying with that, these individuals must be allowed to undertake the biometric authentication at the GST seva Kendra of their state instead of travelling to Gujarat, GCCI sought.
