The government has asked businesses to enroll for e-way bill ahead of roll-out from April 1 because only 11 lakh businesses and transporters registered for the platform yet.
The electronic way (e-way) bill will be presented to a GST inspector concerning inter-state transportation of goods valuing more than Rs 50,000 through airways, vessels, railways, and road.
Finance Secretary Hasmukh Adhia mentioned in a statement that the company regulating the GSTN is ready to implement the new system, the e-way bill from April 1.
Adhia said, “…But I’m not too sure whether traders, dealers and transporters are still ready. I would like to appeal to them to register themselves on the e-way bill portal …As early as possible; they should not then tell us that we didn’t inform them.”
GSTN CEO Prakash Kumar mentioned that 11 lakh transporters and businesses have enrolled on the new system and all the registration are expected to be done at the last minute.
Similarly, there is 1.05 crore registered traders and 70 lakh file the returns under GST regime. The provisions of the goods and services tax (GST) was first initiated on 1 February but its rollout was on halt after receiving technical problems in producing permission. Other states as well initiating to provide intra-state e-way bills on the GSTN portal, the system produced an obstacle.
The Finance Ministry had directed the GSTN to make a system before the re-launch of the e-way bill.
The GST Council, pronounced on a stumble implementation of the e-way bill from April 1 for inter-state and April 15 for intra-state.
The e-way bill is being mentioned as an anti-evasion measure and would assist boost tax collections by depressing on the trade that now runs on the cash basis. Adhia mentioned that e-way bill for intra-state movement of goods which is made to launch after 2 weeks of inter-state implementation.
He said, “We will announce the schedule at least 3 days in advance, but not immediately because we want to observe how the e-way bill portal functions for inter-state movement of goods. After that, we will try to bring it for intra-state (movement of goods).”

Ajay Bhushan Pandey, GSTN Chairman said that the new system has been made and produced by National Informatics Centre (NIC) and surely the system will bear the load.
After the February 1 obstacle, the e-way system was modified to deal with 75 lakh inter-state e-way bills every day. The Chairman said, “Whenever you roll out such a system, there could be some issues in the initial phases. So based on our experience, this time around extensive testing has been done. Assurance has been given by NIC that this time the system should work.”
