August 2026 GST Collections Climb to Nearly ₹2 Lakh Crore in Gross Revenue

GST Collections for August 2026

As per the data, Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections have surged 14.8% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹1.99 lakh crore in August 2026. Domestic transactions GST revenue has surged 9.3% to ₹1.37 lakh crore, and the revenue from imports has risen 29% to Rs 62,604 crore during the month.

INR 38,413 crore and INR 46,316 crore were the Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST) collections, respectively. Rs 1.15 lakh crore was the Integrated GST (IGST) collection.

August GST refunds saw an increase of 68% to Rs 31,795 crore. Inverted duty structures led to a rise in domestic refunds. Net GST revenue after accounting for refunds stood at Rs 1.68 lakh crore, an increase of 8.3% year on year.

August GST collections indicated continued stronger domestic consumption, and the compliance and revenue inflows are backed by the August 31 statutory timeline.

During April-August 2026, net GST revenue rose on a year-to-date basis by nearly 9%, marking that GST buoyancy remains below one at around 0.7. August’s gross GST revenue surpassed the ₹1.74 lakh crore collected in July.

Following the 7.8% Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in the first quarter, the 14.8% increase in total GST collections further bolsters the positive economic climate.

It shows that even after geopolitical conflicts and global economic uncertainty, the Indian economy is performing effectively.
