N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, announced that a new artificial intelligence tool used for issuing occupancy certificates has identified about 1,000 builders who have not registered for the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
At the time of a tax review meeting with revenue-earning departments on 9th April, Naidu highlighted leveraging AI across all departments to detect tax evaders and improve compliance rates.
Naidu emphasized the role of technology, citing the significance of an easier and more transparent procedure for both the government and businesses. He asked the officials to ease the tax payments and approval procedure to motivate compliance. “Unlike the previous govt, which harassed businesses, the present NDA govt is business-friendly. However, officials must also focus on increasing state-owned revenues,” CM Naidu expressed.
Naidu proposed using artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the efficiency of government services by connecting it with taxpayer information, the GST portal, and other state data systems. He suggested that AI could help in sending out notifications, solving complaints, and speeding up various government processes.
Naidu also urged all taxation departments to work together to achieve a tax revenue goal of Rs 1.37 lakh crore for the state in the upcoming financial year.
For FY 2024-25, the revenue of the state has surged by 2.2% compared to the earlier year. The tax revenues has been surged by 4.1% with GST rising by 4.9%, professional tax by 15.2%, and excise revenue by 24.3%. But the non-tax revenue does not meet expectations. Naidu has praised the new excise policy marking a 33% rise since October 2024.
