Govt Revises Clear Float Glass Import Policy with ₹34,000/MT Minimum Price for One Year

Govt Revises Clear Float Glass Import Policy with ₹34,000/MT Minimum Import Price

The Government of India has changed the import policy and its conditions regulating imports of Clear Float Glass of thickness varying from 4 mm to 12 mm, falling under ITC (HS) Codes 70051090 and 70052990 under Chapter 70 of Schedule-I (Import Policy) of ITC (HS), 2022.

Notification No. 29/2026-27 dated August 18, 2026 has been issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, in exercise of powers granted under Sections 3 and 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, read with paragraphs 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023, as amended from time to time.

As per the changed policy, the import status of goods falling under ITC (HS) Code 70051090 – “Other”, under non-wired glass having an absorbent, reflecting or non-reflecting layer, has been revised from “Free” to “Restricted”. Imports under the cited tariff line will continue to be “Free” where the CIF value is ₹34,000 and above per Metric Tonne (MT).

Likewise, the import policy for goods that come under ITC (HS) Code 70052990 – “Other: Other”, covering other non-wired glass, has been amended from “Free” to “Restricted”. Imports in this tariff line will remain “Free” where the CIF value is ₹34,000 and above per MT.

The government rolled out a Minimum Import Price (MIP) of ₹34,000 per MT on certain Clear Float Glass products. Imports that are less than the specified CIF value will fall under the “Restricted” import category, while consignments satisfying or surpassing the mentioned value will continue to be allowed under the “Free” import policy.

The notification also furnishes that the Minimum Import Price condition will not be applicable on imports made by Advance Authorisation holders, Export Oriented Units (EOUs) and units located in Special Economic Zones (SEZs), subject to the norms that imported inputs falling under certain ITC (HS) Codes are not sold into the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA).

MIP condition rolled out via the notification will remain applicable for 1year from the publication date of the notification.

The amendment includes Clear Float Glass of 4 mm to 12 mm thickness falling under ITC (HS) Codes 70051090 and 70052990, and forms part of the Government’s change of the import policy and related policy conditions under Chapter 70 of Schedule-I of ITC (HS), 2022.
