UP Surpasses TN in GST Collections By Reporting a 19% Growth

Uttar Pradesh Overtakes Tamil Nadu in Monthly GST Collection

Concerning monthly GST collections, Uttar Pradesh has overtaken Tamil Nadu by recording a 19% rise in tax revenues in April.

As per the information, by 19% the GST collections in Uttar Pradesh increased to Rs 12,290 crore in April 2024, becoming the 4th largest contributor after Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat. Tamil Nadu, which saw a 6 per cent increase in GST mop-up to Rs 12,210 crore in the month slipped to 5th place.

Earlier, GST collections in Tamil Nadu have been more elevated compared to Uttar Pradesh which is the largest state in terms of population. Tamil Nadu’s GST collection was Rs 11,559 crore while Uttar Pradesh’s was Rs 10,320 crore in April 2023.

Tamil Nadu’s collection was Rs 11,017 crore in March 2024 and Uttar Pradesh’s collection stood at Rs 9,087 crore. Also in February Tamil Nadu’s mop-up was higher at Rs 9,713 crore, compared to Rs 8,054 crore of Uttar Pradesh.

Tamil Nadu’s GST revenue stood at Rs 9,888 crore against Rs 8,011 crore of UP in December 2023.

Maharashtra was the largest contributor securing a revenue of Rs 37,671 crore for the total GST collections by states. A 13 per cent growth in the 2024 April GST collection has been recorded in Maharashtra.

The second biggest contributor to GST revenues with collections of Rs 15,978 crore is the state of Karnataka in April, with a 9% Y-o-Y rise.

A 13 per cent Y-o-Y growth is been enrolled by the state of Gujarat with revenues of Rs 13,301 crore in April.

The GST collections, which contain central and state mop-up, attained Rs 2 lakh crore in a month for the first time since the start of the unified tax system.

12.4 per cent to a record high of Rs 2.10 lakh crore in April is registered by the GST collections. Robust economic momentum and increased domestic transactions and imports lead to a rise in revenue.
