TRACES 2.0: New TDS Portal for Easier Compliance Management

New TDS Portal (TRACES 2.0)

The income tax department has launched an improved version of its TDS compliance platform, TRACES 2.0. This update aims to make it easier for people to manage tax reporting in line with the Income Tax Act, 2025. Starting from April 1, 2026, the new system will replace the old TRACES portal with a simpler and more user-friendly design to help users understand and navigate the tax reporting process better.

Describe TRACES 2.0 Portal

The updated version of the TDS Reconciliation Analysis and Correction Enabling System (TRACES), called TRACES 2.0, is made to act as a central hub for all TD deducted at source (TDS)-pertinent activities after payment of tax. It is not a payment platform but a compliance and tracking system where taxpayers can access, verify, and handle their TDS records.

You can visit traces.tdscpc.gov.in, which will take you directly to a new website that brings together several tax services in one place.

Single Dashboard for All TDS Information

The rollout of a centralised dashboard is among the biggest upgrades. Now the taxpayers can view documents like Form 26AS, the Annual Information Statement (AIS), and TDS credit details in a single interface. This integration is anticipated to lessen fragmentation and make it simpler to reconcile tax data.

Users are enabled to download crucial TDS certificates, including Form 16, Form 16A, and Form 16B, track credits, and submit corrections more efficiently compared to earlier times.

‘Tax Year’ Substitutes AY-PY Confusion

In TRACES 2.0, a structural revision is rolled out, i.e., the shift to a single tax year system. The same substitutes the previous dual concepts of the ‘Previous Year’ and ‘Assessment Year’, which often leads to confusion among taxpayers.

The purpose of this decision is to ease compliance for individuals and small taxpayers who discovered the earlier terminology intricate.

Quick Access to Records with Correction Facility

Also, the portal comprises a dedicated section for historical data, permitting users to access records from previous financial years. Taxpayers are authorised to submit corrections, download past certificates, and verify older TDS entries without navigating multiple systems.

Custom Portal Design for NRIs

The department, acknowledging the requirements of non-resident taxpayers, has launched a separate portal, nriservices.tdscpc.gov.in. The same platform is made to manage NRI-specific TDS provisions more efficiently.
Not a Payment Platform

It is to be considered that TRACES 2.0 does not streamline TDS payments. Taxpayers, along with property buyers deducting TDS, need to continue to deposit tax through the income tax e-filing portal using forms like 26QB.

TRACES activates after the payment is made, allowing users to download certificates such as Form 16B, track credits, and make important corrections.
