Inspector Raj Under GST E Way Bill Still Continue

Inspector Raj GST E Way Bill

The GST and the E-way bill was supposed to smoothen operational roadblocks for Transporters. But as per the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), the reality is still in sharp contrast to the promised dream. Further, the transporters continue to suffer from the decades-old clutches of the inspector raj. Naveen Kumar Gupta, Secretary General of All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) said, “Ease for transporters still seems a far-fetched reality.”

Gupta further added that the E-Way bill which promised to accelerate process has failed. The Police Inspector can now stop any shipment for inspection. This delays goods delivery time and leads up to dissatisfied clients. The inspectors can stop the shipment at any time just for inspection. The GST and E-way bill was supposed to add transparency as well as strengthen grips on corruption. However, for the time being, it seems that the E-way bill has only increased headaches for transporters.

The e-way bill has details of the consignee/consignor on it. In case of any discrepancies found, the tax department and the Police department must summon the consignee/consignor. The transporters are more than glad to off-load any dubious consignment.

The Secretary-General of All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) appreciated the work done to reduce check posts. A significant reduction has taken place under the new mechanism. But there are larger concerns which have to be addressed at the earliest. Unless and until Transporters are not freed from the web of random police interrogations and checks will continue to derail the smooth delivery of goods across the length and breadth of the country.
