In a press release issued on the evening of December 18, 2018, the Ministry of Finance has provided an update about the development of the new GST return filing system by GSTN. According to a statement by Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla, State Minister for Finance, the focus of GSTN is to develop a new return filing system by improving the user interface as well as the analytics system. Presently, GSTN is working on developing the components which require minor changes. This includes continuous improvement in the User Interface based on the feedback received during the past year.
Other major changes and improvements being made to the return filing system include GSTR-3B filing questionnaire to help taxpayers avoid errors, one-click Nil return filing, ease of GST transactions, generation of pre-populated challan, among others.
Besides that, GSTN is also working on the Intelligence and Analytics part of the system in order to make it more robust and predictive to effectively perform Fraud detection, predictive analysis, and other things.
