At a recently held meeting of a group of a minister (GoM) which was created to resolve the issues and implement the goods and services tax in a better manner recommended some suggestion for the eway bill under GST. The GoM suggested that the GST eway bill for the interstate movement of goods must be implemented from 1st April 2018.
However, the decision for final rollout will be taken by the GST council at the 26th GST council meeting now scheduled for 10th March. The convenor of GoM and the finance minister of Bihar, Sushil Kumar Modi stated that the government may find time to implement the intrastate GST eway bill in 2 – 3 weeks in a phased manner.
He said The intra-state e-way bill would not be implemented in one go. In a phased manner, 4-5 states every week would be allowed to implement the intra-state e-way bill.” Still, there were no words on the manner of selection of states for the implementation of intrastate GST eway bill.
Earlier there was the date 1st February on which the GST eway bill was to be implemented but due to some technical glitches, eway bill was postponed until a later date most probably 1st April 2018. The preparation of site is underway as the Sushil Kumar Modi mentioned that there are 2 rounds of load testing is done while the next set of testing will be done within 2 days.
But the GoM cant decides the new model for the return filings as there are issues stuck with the provisional credit and linking of credit with tax payments. Still, some of the issues like invoice matching was discussed on good note and the GoM also felt that it has to be done as it is the base of goods and services tax
