GST E WayBill Trial Run Starts Today Until 31st January 2018

The GST council along with central authorities have initiated their struggle to implement GST e way bill here in India starting from 16th January 2018 on a trial basis. The permanent roll out of GST e way bill is scheduled to be from 1st February 2018, till then the authorities want to run it on trial basis in order to speculate any procedural or operational errors.

The GST e way bill is stated to ease the interstate movement of goods through the electronically generated bill which will accompany the logistics when transported. Earlier at the time of implementation of GST, the e way bill couldn’t be implemented due to the shortcomings of IT infrastructure. But recently the GST council took the firm decision to finally roll out the GST e way bill firstly on a trial basis than after on a full fledge basis from 1st February 2018.

Now the GST e way bill is mandatory for all the interstate transition of goods from 1st February while on the starting of the trial, the GST Network CEO Prakash Kumar explained the capabilities of infrastructure to handle the massive operation of nationwide system support. He stated that the GST e way bill is designed to accommodate 50 lakh e way bills per day. While the GSTN is speculating around 10 lakh bills for the interstate transaction, it is expected that for intrastate transactions there might be around 30 – 40 lakh bills.

The National Informatics Centre is the developer of the software of GST e way bill system and will be operated and handled by the NIC data centre. It was revealed in the talks that the new GST e way bill infrastructure had cost around 40 crores to the government. The data is said to be fully protected by the system as mentioned by the CEO, “None of us has any access to any individual taxpayers data. Taxpayers’ data can only be accessed by two people, the taxpayer himself and tax officer. In case of any investigation, the investigation team can take approval of a senior officer and then they will see that data. They can only see.”

The intrastate eway bill is now re-scheduled to be implemented from 3rd June 2018 across the country from the earlier date of 1st June 2018 due to some reasons unspecified but the GST council with central government has notified that the said date i.e. 3rd June is the deadline for all the states to implement intrastate GST eway bill anyhow.

It is to be noted that the final implementation of GST e way bill is scheduled to be 1st June 2018 anyhow for both inter-state and intra-state e-way bill generation.
