Amazon and other e-commerce websites may get tax department audit soon, as the reports state that the government wants to ascertain the GST rate cut benefits being given to the consumers.
The national anti-profiteering authority has assigned this work to the director general, audit to perform a complete analysis of the e-commerce companies financial transactions over the period of time.
According to the recent GST council meeting, there were multiple products on which the GST rates were reduced and most of them were of the FMCG category citing a query on the e-commerce companies.
Now the department wants to ensure that the GST rate reduction benefits were properly reached to the customer or not through the investigation of the transactions details of e-commerce companies.
Earlier, there were companies including Dominos Pizza, there were targeted by the anti-profiteering authorities for not passing GST rate reduction benefits to the consumers, therefore the companies are not taking precautionary measure against such incidents.
