Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is blaming two greater moves – including Demonetisation and Goods and Services Tax (GST) for job scarcity. The economic conditions of the country reached to a ‘sad state‘ and the opposition parties celebrating the ‘black day’ to mark the first demonetization ceremony.
While speaking at traders meet on GST, Kejriwal petitioned to the Centre that the government must eliminate 28 percent and 18 percent tax slabs rates under GST. He further added that the only 12 percent slab rate should be applicable on all items.
“A situation of job scarcity has arisen as the economy is in a sad state and recession has taken place. Everybody is saying that the two reasons behind this are demonetization and GST in the last two years,” Mr Kejriwal said.
While speaking with traders at an event conducted by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Delhi Government in respect of ‘GST Market Support Committees’, Arvind Kejriwal has informed to market associations to develop WhatsApp groups in their respective areas, to address issues relating to the newly implemented Goods and Services Tax (GST) which will be later discussed in GST Council meeting by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

“We don’t want closure of trades due to the GST in Delhi. I ask you (the traders) to approach the government if we can do something for you. The Deputy CM will raise all your issues at the GST Council meeting”, said Kejriwal. By adding that, “I ask the Centre that there should only be the 12% tax slab. Out of 12%, the Centre and States can share 6% each on every item.”
Claiming GST the complex taxation structure, Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia, said that, the issue of traders relating to GST should be solved quickly. “There is a lot of complexity in GST. If it is not removed, the situation would deteriorate.” Mr Sisodia also handles the finance portfolio.
Additionally, he also demanded that frequently used items such furniture, chocolates, toys, cement, two- wheeler parts, bathroom accessories, electrical fittings should be replaced from higher slab category of 28 percent, by adding that he will further discuss it in the next GST Council Meeting.
