FM Announces Auto-Approval of GST Registration Within 3 Days for New Applicants

3-Day Auto-Approval of GST Registration from 1st Nov 2025

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that from November 1, 2025, the government will roll out an easier GST registration system that provides automatic approval in three working days for most new applicants.

The objective of this initiative under the GST 2.0 reforms package approved by the GST council is to facilitate compliance and reduce human intervention in the registration process.

The latest system provides automatic registration in two categories for applicants discovered via data-based risk analysis and for those who self-declare that their monthly output tax liability will not surpass Rs 2.5 lakh. As per FM, approximately 96% of new GST applicants may benefit from this newly facilitated approval process.

The finance minister, speaking at the inauguration of the new CGST Bhawan in Ghaziabad, cited that the focus of the government was now shifting from policy formulation to on-ground implementation. She asked both the central and state GST authorities to ensure seamless implementation of reforms, outlining that the system must operate “by design, not by discretion.”

The Finance Minister, repeating the purpose of GST 2.0, administration needs to balance respect and firmness, treating taxpayers with dignity while keeping the strictness against evasion. “Taxpayers should feel honourably treated as contributors to the nation. If there are a few bad actors, take action as per law, but don’t view every taxpayer with suspicion,” she told officers of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).

The government within GST 2.0 reforms must rationalise tax slabs, simplify return filing, and automate refund and audit systems. As per FM, such measures will make the GST structure efficient, equitable, and growth-driven.

She added that GST Seva Kendras across India should be effectively staffed and accessible, with dedicated helpdesks to guide applicants through the registration process, which provides perfect support to taxpayers. She said, field units must perform internal audits of these centres and address taxpayer issues immediately.

Disciplinary proceedings against officers need to be completed within the said timelines for the integrity within the tax administration. “Swift action reinforces accountability and dispels perceptions of indifference or protectionism,” she said, quoting the motto for administrative conduct:

“Galat kiya toh khair nahi, sahi kiya toh koi bair nahi” — Wrongdoers cannot escape; there’s no enmity with those who do right.

Sitharaman, quoting the information from the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) that this Diwali, the retail sales have attained Rs 6.05 trillion, which is a 25% year-on-year rise, with 87% of consumers choosing Indian-made goods. Nearly 72% of traders credited GST rate reductions on consumer goods, home décor, and footwear for the rise in sales.

“With consistent reforms, commitment, and teamwork, we can achieve new heights in revenue, compliance, and taxpayer service,” Sitharaman concluded. “Our ultimate goal is to make life easier for the honest taxpayer and never offer comfort to the dishonest. If we stay on that path, economic growth and national prosperity will naturally follow.”
