Right now the e-verification of income-tax return via Aadhaar OTP is not available, as the Income Tax Department’s e-filing website (https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in) has regretted this issue.

On the website, there is a short message displayed stating, “Temporarily due to technical issues, Aadhaar OTP for e-verification is unavailable. This will be enabled shortly”

In this particular time, the taxpayers can go for various alternatives for e-verifying their respective ITR. It must be noted that the due date for AY 2018-19 or FY 2017-18 is 31sy July 2018.

According to the notification issued by the income tax department, the “e-Verification can be done up to 120 days from filing of the ITR so the Aadhaar OTP option can be exercised as soon as it is enabled.”

Also, it is important to verify the IT return once they are filed, as the return filed will not be processed further and the taxpayer might be left without filing ITR at all.

However, the assessee can verify the IT return filing either through online or offline mode. The taxpayers have 2 options to e-verify IT return filed through online mode.

First one is internet banking and the second mode for ITR filing e-verification is through demat accounts. One must note that under the Aadhaar based e-verification of ITR returns is done by sending an OTP on the registered mobile number.

The other method for e-verification of ITR filing is the offline mode, in which the taxpayer is required to send the ITR-V (acknowledgement form) to the Income Tax Department’s Centralized Processing Centre (CPC) in Bengaluru.

The form must be self-attested and signed and should be sent within 120 days from the date of uploading the ITR. After which the tax department’s Bengaluru processing centre will confirm it.

The ITR V form can be easily downloaded from the taxpayer’s e-filing account. The confirmation slip will be sent to the taxpayer at its registered email address.
