The GST department started an investigation on defaulting returns in late June and senior officials went to check the registered address of all 84,176 dealers where they found to be inactive.

According to the officials, Of these, 8,861 traders were found to be inactive and were not doing business at their declared point of business. They have been served notices and will lose their registration.

Talking about the Mumbai, it has the most number of defaulters pegging at 20,025 defaulting traders in which 3,171 will be losing their registration.

While the officials also stated the way to cancel the notice, by mentioning that, “If any of the traders, who have been served notices, are doing genuine business, they will have to file an appeal against the notice. If the appellate authority deems it fit, the registrations will be restored.”

The department will see through all these cases and would try to bring back the adherence rate as normal as it was the previous year. The confusion still prevails on the part of filing GSTR 3B but it will be worked soon.
