CICU Urged Punjab Tax dept to Release Pending VAT & GST Refunds ASAP

CICU - Release Pending VAT and GST Refunds

The CICU stands for Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings, it is registered as a non-profit making society, and it represents Industry & Trade Sectors of the Punjab State since 1968. As per the recent events, the CICU reflected its disappointment to the Punjab state tax department for its inability to release the pending VAT and GST refunds If you want to know the basic difference between the GST (Goods and Services Tax) & VAT. The association’s office-bearers organized a meeting and condemn the state tax department for keeping the VAT and GST refunds pending. They also urged the state government to take appropriate action to solve this matter and release the pending as soon as possible.

Upkar Singh Ahuja, president of CICU said that “A meeting of our steering committee was held to discuss the major problems being faced by the state’s industry and it emerged that the pending GST and VAT refunds have become the biggest problem for businessmen. What is even more embarrassing for the state taxation department that it has been almost three years since the VAT regime ended in the country but even then the refunds dating back to that time are still held up”.

Pankaj Sharma, CICU’s general secretary also responded that “Clearing VAT and GST refunds should be the top priority of the state government. In addition to this, the state government should also restart mining so that raw material for the construction industry is made available and fixed charges on the power bills should be waived until December 2020. Another demand is that the state government should bring back labor from other states at its own expense and draft a policy of quarantine for such workers and no action be taken against the industrial units if any such worker who is returning is found positive.” JS Bhogal, publicity secretary of the CICU stated that “Government must bring a policy for one-time settlement of C-forms and it should be ensured that rate of electricity should not be hiked in Punjab.”
