This financial year i.e. 2019-20, the GST collections of some of the backward states have come forward unexpectedly. The states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh have recorded much better collections.
The forward states such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were earlier known to give better GST collections but now the backward states have also come into the race.
This time the GST collections have topped at 3.56 lakh crore i.e. 9 per cent more than the previous results. It is worth notable that these backwards states were earlier known to have much more population which brought higher goods and services consumption.

The states like Odisha registered the highest growth at 20.8 per cent while the other states like Uttarakhand at 19.9, Bihar at 17.8, MP at 14.6, Assam at 14.1 and UP at 12 per cent.
As per the collection statistics, only Bengal registered a slower growth than other states and the GST collection as compared to the previous year for the given time period is 12,700 unlike the 13,000 crores for the Delhi.
