The GST council will soon take some important decision on the flood relief for the Kerala state as Kerala’s Finance Minister TM Thomas Isaac is in round talk with the government to let them impose extra cess for the recovery of losses due to the natural calamity.
From last few months, the government is working upon to hike the cess on luxury vehicles from 15 percent to 25 percent and now finally, a bill has been approved by the Lok Sabha which has made the cess on luxury cars at 25%.
The newly elected President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, has recently in an official announcement ordered to increase the GST compensation cess rate on luxury vehicles, large cars and sports utility cars from 15% to 25% under the GST regime.
One of the experts in market studies and industry research stated that the Cess which is introduced in the GST for compensating the loss of the states can possibly be dropped after five years in the lieu of the structured tax system which will otherwise fulfill the revenue of state government.
