GST Council: Andhra Pradesh Takes the Lead in AI-Driven Tax Administration & Data Analytics

Andhra Pradesh Leads in AI-Driven Tax Administration & Data Analytics, Says GST Council

Andhra Pradesh is leading in the usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data analytics for tax administration. It serves as an example for other states, the GST Council mentioned.

From the GST Council Secretariat, a delegation visited the State Commercial Taxes Department in Amaravati to examine the State government’s use of AI in tax administration.

Various AI-enabled systems and the department’s developed dashboards were analysed by the team, including Additional Secretary Pankaj Kumar Singh and Joint Secretary D.P. Mishra.

Officials demonstrated dashboards including registrations, returns, revenue, professional tax, tax arrears, audits, inspections and scrutiny.

The revenue and e-way bill dashboards influenced the delegation. As per the officials, the information on the GST e-way bill is used to evaluate SGST cash payments and IGST settlements. It furnishes important data for tracking revenue.

The department shows its use of GST Data for real-time estimation of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), as well as an AI agent for generating reports and dashboards. It is developed as an AI-driven knowledge hub.

AI is being integrated across the tax administration process, which consists of audit selection, detection of irregularities, issuance of notices, analysis of taxpayer responses, and final decision-making. AI engines from Microsoft and Google are also being embraced.
