Karnataka Reports 26% Growth in Women Filing Income Tax Returns Over the Past Five Years

26% Surge in Income Tax Filings by Karnataka Women

A rise in the women filing Income tax returns has been seen in Karnataka with numbers climbing from 11.3 lakh in 2019-20 to 14.3 lakh in the AY 2023-24. In the last 5 years, it is a 26% growth.

The state rebounded quickly, even after a temporary dip to 11 lakh in 2020-21 arriving with 11.7 lakh filers by 2021-22 and keeping a robust upward trend after that, as per the latest finance ministry data.

In the state women account for nearly a third of all ITR filers up from 29% in 2019-20, recommending their participation is surpassing the overall growth trends.

Maharashtra Tops

Maharashtra is leading with 36.8 lakh women ITR filers after that Gujarat with 22.5 lakh and Uttar Pradesh with 20.4 lakh. The highest percentage is been shown by the Telangana and the growth of Andhra Pradesh stayed modest at 18%.

Also, the report cited that West Bengal demonstrates a consistent rise with 12.9 lakh and Tamil Nadu with 15.5 lakh women filers.

Even after economic disruptions at the time of the pandemic, the recovery of Karnataka has been robust, fueled by the rise in workforce participation and improved financial chances for women. The very trend shows a positive transformation towards the financial independence of women in the state.

As per the data, the performance of Karnataka is not solely attractive in figures but indeed in its resilience and steady growth trajectory. As per the numbers more women are involved in economic activities and tax filing which shows social and economic dynamics.

Economic Growth of Karnataka

Hailing the progress of the state Karnataka Minister Santosh Lad cites that it has arisen as a leader in economic growth recording an impressive 10% GDP growth compared to the national average of 8.2%.

Lad specifying the progress of Karnataka between 2013 and 2018, marked that the state was a leader in tax collection and economic development.
