UP Should Be Listed for Highest GST Revenue Collection, CM Yogi

While addressing a meeting of officials on Thursday, December 24, 2020, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the state (UP) having the largest population in India must also be the state making the highest revenue per year. Saying that he instructed his officials to up their efforts to raise the amount of revenue the state government gets every year. He also directed tax officials to start taking strict actions against the companies or individuals that are found engaged in tax evasion activities of any kind.

UP Highest GST Revenue State

“UP is the most populous state in the country and has maximum consumers. Therefore, the GST collection should also be the highest here,” said Yogi Adityanath.

Concerns of tax officials accountable for GST revenue collection must be resolved promptly. At the same time, eligible officers should be given appropriate responsibility and authority. He also pressed that the use of technology in revenue collection related tasks must be widened, as it can greatly help prevent tax evasion and increase revenue.

While addressing the team, CM said that it’s important to make sure that all eligible traders in the state are registered for GST in order to give GST collection a boost. He instructed officials to see that at least 25 lakh businesses are registered under GST. “Traders registered under GST in UP get an insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh without paying any premium. We should inform traders about this and other facilities and encourage them to get themselves registered. The work should be done in coordination with the traders’ welfare board,” Yogi said.

GST is an indirect tax “Recently, many of the exporters have come under the tracing radar of tax authorities in India for claiming the tax credit two times for the same export under that is borne by the consumer and plays a crucial role in the overall progress of the country and the state, he added. The focus should also be on recovering the outstanding VAT amount from traders, which can be achieved by implementing the one-time settlement scheme again, said Yogi.
