Transporters Decided to Go on Two Days Strike Referred to GST

Transporters have decided to go on strike on 8th and 9th October as they are frustrated by the frequent changes in GST rates and diesel prices. The strike will take place in all over the India under the banner of All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC). The objective of AIMTC behind the strike is to aware the GST Council prior the meeting going to be held after two days of the strike.

A K Mittal, the President of AIMTC, allegedly said that they have already put the issues in front of the government but it is not ready to pay heed to the situation of transporters and that’s why such a prominent step has been announced to pursue. And if the government doesn’t understand the situation even after the strike, the indefinite strikes would be taken place after Diwali season.

The Vice-president of AIMTC, Harish Sabharwal said that the transporters are confused with the Registration norms as the government says the registration is optional and the provision says registration is compulsory. Apart from this, there are so many issues which should be resolved by the government. The hike in diesel prices adding 70% diesel expenses in transportation and corruption in the process of transportation are other issues impacting the Industry adversely.
