Still 34 Percent of Service Tax Assesses Remains Unregistered With GST

The major revenue department CBEC is tensed and also gearing up for a better and far reaching campaign regarding the migration of taxpayer into the GST. The department is pleading to the taxpayers for migration into GST by end of this month in order to avoid any issues later on.

The sourced data says that only 34 percent of existing service tax entities has migrated themselves into GST so far while talking about the VAT and central excise assesses, the percentage comes up at 75 and 73 respectively. Only service tax entities are behind in the transformation towards the GST network.

CBEC chairperson, Vanaja N sarna in this matter said in a letter to the officers that, “We are fast approaching the last date for completion of migration i.e. April 30, 2017. I urge all zonal Chief Commissioners to take necessary steps to assist all existing taxpayers in their migration to the new regime.” While in the other statement by the department it said that, “Duty or tax credits under the existing laws cannot be carried forward in GST unless you enroll in the GST portal,”
