The Legal Metrological Department of Telangana government is all set to initiate a special check in the State after receiving so many complaints from the public about businesses are imposing GST over and above the MRP mentioned on the packet of the goods.
CV Anand, Civil supplies Commissioner in Telangana and controller of legal metrology department said regarding the issue that traders and businesses who are involved in such a practice will be treated strictly for imposing Goods and Services Tax (GST) over the maximum retail price (MRP). He further said that such a case will be treated as illegal practice and it is liable to take severe action against them.
For the malpractices of an extra imposition of GST, there is a penalty put in order between Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 25,000. He clearly warned the importers, manufacturers, and packers for malpractices of accumulating GST over the MRP mentioned on the packet of the goods.

CV Anand has indicated the legal meteorological department in a review meeting to strictly treat the accused on the complaint of purchasers and consumers regarding the imposition of extra GST over MRP value.
He explained to consumers, “Customers should be made aware that GST is included in the MRP and it should not be charged separately.” He further said, “Several complaints have come to light of additional GST being charged over MRP on packaged goods, and some non-taxed goods are also been taxed with GST. It is illegal.”
From 26 October 2017 onwards, the special teams (made with the staff and officials of metrological department) have organized to check the status of misconduct across the state, he further said. In an official release, it is mentioned that to relief the consumers against such traders and businesses a separate grievance cell has also been initiated.
