Startups & MSMEs Request Govt for the Extension of GST Returns & Payment Deadlines

Need Extension of GST Payment & Return Filing Due Dates

Beneath covid impact, the MSMEs and startups have been asked by the government to prolong the GST payment along with the last date of furnishing the returns for the month of March, April, and May to June 30, 2021. As per the analysis of MSMEs and startups through community social media platform LocalCircles as many as 80% of respondents recommended the prolongation of the last date listing the issues in furnishing the GST for March month. Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman has furnished the same prolongation up on ITR furnishing and GST return due in the previous year.

“MSMEs and startups have been requesting an extension of the GST payment and filing deadlines as in many states there have been curfew and lockdown restrictions that have been imposed since early or mid-April preventing them from meeting these deadlines. The respondents want the government to extend the deadline without penalty,” said Sachin Taparia, Founder and Chairman of, LocalCircles told Financial Express Online. This analysis has been executed amid April 21-22, observed the participation of 2,370 startups, MSMEs, traders, and service providers mapped in 122 districts of India. LocalCircles had also increased the appeal for action to Sitharaman in a letter posted last week.

The government has been already circulated the postponement of the last date for payment beneath the Direct Tax Vivad Se Vishwas Act, 2020, and some compliances beneath the Income Tax Act by two months till June 30. To the assessee, tax consultants, and other stakeholders have been given a relief in the previous week which engages “Time limit for the passing of any order for assessment or reassessment under the Income-tax Act, 1961 the time limit for which is provided under section 153 or section 153B thereof; Time limit for passing an order consequent to the direction of DRP under sub-section (13) of section 144C of the Act; Time limit for issuance of notice under section 148 of the Act for reopening the assessment where income has escaped assessment; and Time Limit for sending intimation of processing of Equalisation Levy under sub-section (1) of section 168 of the Finance Act 2016,” as per the post from the finance ministry.

Traders body Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) asked the government last week to defer 11 GST compliances and beneath income tax act 15 compliances by 3 months. As per the federation which shows nearly 8 cr trader across 40k trade associations in India, returns including GSTR-3B, GSTR-1, GSTR-4, CMP-08, GSTR-5, GSTR-5A, GSTR-6, GSTR-7, and GSTR-8 is because of April engaging the last date for providing the TDS certificate for tax deducted beneath section 194-IA, IB, and 194M, a quarterly statement towards the foreign remittances in form 15CC, furnishing form 3BB, form 24G, challan-cum-statement for tax deducted beneath section 194-IA, etc., of the Income Tax Act.
