Small Businesses and Tax Professionals Urge Revised GST Returns

Business and Tax Consultants Call for Revisions in GST Returns

The top business and tax consultant associations from both the city and the state have come together to demand the provision of revised GST returns.

They argue that this provision is their right similar to what exists in other tax systems, including income tax, earlier VAT, central excise, and service tax.

In response to the call from the MP Tax Law Bar Association (MPTLBA) and Commercial Tax Practitioners Association (CTPA), the leading business and tax organizations in the city and the state convened at Maheshwari Bhawan on a recent Saturday.

The meeting saw the participation of various influential groups, including the Ahilya Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Malwa Chamber of Commerce, Tiles and Sanitary Association, Iron Traders Association, National Association of GST Professionals, MPTLBA and CTPA.

All the tax professionals expressed their points at the gathering, that the ability to file revised returns is a right of the 1.40 crore registered taxpayers and over 60 lakh tax professionals nationwide. They also emphasized that denying them this right goes against the principle of natural justice as they are not even allowed to present their side.

At the gathering, many officials made their presence. The representatives at the meeting were AK Lakhotia, President of MPTLBA, Ameet Dave, Deputy President of NATP, Devendra Jain, President of CTPA, Sunil Jain, Ramesh Khandelwal, President of Ahilya Chambers of Commerce, and Ajitsingh Narang, President of Malwa Chamber of Commerce.

In a significant development, tax practitioner and Supreme Court lawyer Pradeep Kanthed has submitted a petition to the Supreme Court, expecting provisions regarding revised GST returns.

The court has accepted the petition and issued notices to the finance ministry, CBIC, and GST Council meeting. The next hearing for this case is scheduled for November 8.
