Revenue secretary Hasmukh Adhia is making every effort by spreading information knowledge regarding the upcoming Goods and services tax in India by all the means, including meeting, discussions and state visit. This time in a Q&A session via Facebook Live, he cleared out that all the traders which are dealing in the products based on petrol, diesel and other similar commodities which are exempted from the GST and have been kept under zero rate did not need to register under the Goods and service tax.
Mr. Adhia mentioned this with a clear sign to eradicate any confusion with added point that if a trader is dealing in other goods along with petroleum products, then, in that case, he is obliged to register under the GST framework. He also mentioned that as per the data, the states earn 30 to 40 percent of their revenue from the alcohol and petroleum products. So the decision was taken to keep out all these items from the GST as for a while.

But the government and states will, later on, review the reports and will take a decision on this issue and if needed will try to include these products into the GST. The revenue secretary Hansmukh Adhia mentioned that “If you are dealing in a commodity on which GST is not applicable, the trader does not need to register under GST. Petrol, diesel, aviation turbine fuel (ATF), crude oil and natural gas dealers need not register under GST.”
He added that “all big or small traders should get ready for it.” and specified that the government is keen to roll out the GST in coming July and will start it pre-testing operation soon in other states to check if any loopholes are occurring. Recently he also tagged Telecom ministry to upgrade and resolve the poor connectivity issues in northeastern states.
