For opposing new GST Regime, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Bombay High Court. Dr K. S Pilai, a 63-year-old retired professor from the King Edward Memorial Hospital from Parel has filed a petition and alleged that the government is hurrying in implementing new indirect taxation structure in India. The hearing of the case will be held on 29th June.
The professor has created an objection that how the union government will implement biggest tax reform ‘constitutional changes’ in the middle of financial year “without proper preparations”. Implementing new GST Regime in the middle of the financial year would negatively affect the economy as well as common man.

“The list of rates declared recently when compared with various other rates, some felt unreasonably high ones were represented to the government. The government has not followed the three-months’ period for disposing of these representations as per the established procedure for new major changes as tax reforms,” the petition reads.
The petition also reads, “Implementation in the middle of the financial year will result in maladjustment among the government departments. With the past fiscal year budget provisions, traders with old stocks trying for clearance will face difficulties at all levels. The implementation must at least be as per the global conventional financial year so that the world can follow our system successfully,”.
GST will be launched in the midnight of 30th June and from 1st July the country will enter into a new tax reform. GST will remove about 17 taxes levied by the Central and the State Government and one common tax i.e., GST will be applied will be applicable in supplying goods or services across the country.

From 1st July Goods and Service Tax (GST) means that the country follows the rule of “one nation, one tax, one market“. Due to the new indirect regime, the goods and services will be available at one price across the country.
