Government is all rendered to support the honest taxpayer starting with the assurance that they will not be unnecessarily harassed by the tax officers also the wealth creators would be respected. Adhering to its goals, government-owned indirect tax body – Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has made a decision to appoint an officer in each CGST branch and customs Commissionerate who will be a face for the genuine taxpayer dealing with tax grievances.
As per tax experts, people can now move to a high-level authority if their grievances are not addressed or solved at the designated level. The functioning of this newly assigned legal body (meant to solve taxpayer’s issues) will be channelized by ‘The Directorate of Taxpayer Services’.
“In order to institutionalize the taxpayers’ services in the field formations, it is necessary to designate officers who are to act as the nodal officers assigned with the job of taxpayer service,” CBIC Chairman P. K. Das has written to senior officers.
Referred to as Joint/Additional Commissioner, each CGST and Customs commissionerate will have a nodal officer who will strategize how to reach out to the taxpayers facing issues within their area of jurisdiction.

According to the influentials, it is a good move to have a body that could be a central point of escalation of cases but at the same time tracking the pace of its functionality is also mandatory and therefore the presence of a transparent monitoring mechanism is a must.
In a statement, CBIC Chief made it clear that the Prime Minister is emphasizing the need to facilitate genuine taxpayers with consolidated services and also the taxpayers committing minor mischief should not be subjected to excessive or disproportionate actions. Last but not least the wealth creators should be respected.
