NAA Launches Helpline For GST Complaints Against Anti-profiteers

GST Complaints

The main objective of the National Anti-profiteering Authority (NAA) is to ensure that benefits from GST Rate reductions reach end consumers. Another positive step towards ensuring this was taken recently by the NAA. Consumers can now register complaints against any anti-profiteering practices by traders/sellers on the new helpline number 011-21400643.

As per the NAA website, the helpline number would be active during working hours on all working days. One can call the helpline number 9:30 am -1 pm and 1:30 pm – 6 pm. Besides complaints, the helpline can also be used to provide information as well as resolve disputes related to GST profiteering.

At the time of its introduction, many were not satisfied with the variable tax slabs considering the fact that GST was promoted as One Nation One Tax. However, the Central Government argued that income disparities in Indian Population call for a more versatile and inclusive tax slab. However, in order to check inflation on daily consumer goods, the GST on basic services and goods was regularly updated.

Since the rollout, the GST Council has also made attempts at rationalizing the 28 percent tax slab. To ensure that benefits reach consumers, the NAA was set up.

However, since inception NAA has not been able to crack down on any big fish. Hence, it was forced to launch this helpline so that consumers can now easily and fearlessly file complaints. To file a complaint, consumers must provide pre and post GST reduction invoices of Goods and services purchased. One must also attach invoice copy as proof of anti-profiteering. Common consumers can visit the NAA website and file complaints against non-passing of GST benefits form rate reductions or ITC Complains.
