W.e.f 1st April MP Singh, 1990 batch of Indian Revenue Service (IRS) has been promoted as Chief Commissioner of Income Tax J&K and Ladakh headquarter at Srinagar by the Department of Personnel and Training and Central Board of Direct Taxes, New Delhi.
Singh was posted as Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K, and Ladakh for the past two and half years and has given excellent services to J&K for 10 years as Deputy Commissioner from 1993 to 1999, as Commissioner (Appeals), Jammu from 2018 to 2021 and then as first Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar. He seems to continue as Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K and Ladakh till his superannuation.
He has also served in various breadths in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, North Bengal/Sikkim, Gujarat, and Delhi where he managed Supreme Court matters of the Income Tax Department.
In the department, he was a key person in executing parliament elections in Baramulla and Budgam districts in 1996 heading more than 250 teams of the department from the north-west region and Delhi.
For expanding awareness of the environment and plantation, Singh is known for opting for distinct social initiatives and outreach programs.
Post assumption of charge of Chief Commissioner, he requested his officers to solve the long pending grievances of the assessees of J&K and Ladakh by holding camps in each district and major towns.
To release the bank accounts of the small businessmen and salaried individuals he ordered the officers in whose matter infructuous demands had been made at the time of assessments, which the department attached to implement recovery of outstanding tax demands.
He asked the assessees of the region to maintain their accounts effectively and file their income tax properly since the department has complete learning and information on their turnover along with the additional financial transactions.
Singh has also asked the chartered accountants & tax professionals of J&K to opt for the initiative and create awareness amongst the assessees along with salaried persons.
They must organize regular seminars and workshops with businessmen and in diverse institutions such as colleges, universities, hospitals, medical colleges, government departments, with police and para-military organizations and teach a definition of financial discipline amongst them apart from sharing data on the updated tax provisions so that businessmen and salaried people do not fall under the trap of brokers via availing inappropriate deductions or filing incorrect income particulars.
By following such a roadmap taxpayers can contribute to the development of the nation and save the innocent assessees from the undeserved harassment of litigation.
For the positive role played in this direction, MP Singh thanked the media. He sought taxpayers to send their grievances to his email pcit.srinagar@incometax.gov.in or visit local income tax offices for redressal of their grudges or ask for the data for their obligations & tax provisions.
