Jaitley Hopes to Get Enough Seats in Biennial Elections to Pass GST

According to the Election Commission, the Biennial elections will be held on March 21, 2016 for 13 Rajya Sabha seats in six states. Therefore, the ruling BJP hopes that we will achieve enough seats in the Rajya Sabha in upcoming election to roll-out the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill.

The Indian Finance Minister, Mr. Arun Jailtey said, “Numbers are going to significantly change in the Rajya Sabha with the biennial elections. Every political party in parliament, barring one, has told me it will support GST.”

A short brief about the GST, It has been passed in the Lower House of Parliament but currently stuck in the Rajya Sabha that is known as Upper House and where the ruling NDA government has lack of majority votes.

Taking a dig on the opposition-led, Congress party, Mr Jaitley told the party has an “issue on constitutional capping” of GST and he further said, “Our tariffs are not decided by constitutional caps.”

He added. “Today state governments tell me they are all in favour of GST. Even Karnataka, which has a Congress government, wants the GST.”
