IT Dept Launches Kar Saathi AI Chatbot to Simplify ITR Filing for AY 2026-27

New Kar Saathi AI Chatbot from IT Dept for AY 2026-27 ITR Filing

As artificial intelligence becomes a focal topic in the modern world, the Income Tax Department of India has introduced a new AI-powered chatbot named Kar Saathi. This initiative has been launched in anticipation of the upcoming ITR filing season.

The initiative, which comes under the campaign of department PRARAMBH 2026, has the motive to make tax filing simpler, faster, and more accessible for millions of taxpayers under the new Income Tax Act, 2025 framework.

The updated platform promises to be the only destination for all direct tax-related services and information.

Kar Saathi AI Chatbot: Is It Similar to ChatGPT?

The operations of Kar Saathi are more than just a general-purpose AI chatbot like ChatGPT and Gemini, as it is developed to be an intelligent 24×7 virtual assistant made to reply to taxpayers’ queries in real time. It supports users with-

  • Directions on the ITR filing process
  • Explaining forms, deductions, and deadlines
  • Resolving common doubts without needing intermediaries
  • Understanding the latest tax regulations and provisions
  • Furnishing step-by-step assistance for various tax compliance tasks

AI-chatbot utilises advanced natural language processing to furnish accurate, context-aware responses, and makes it valuable for first-time filers and salaried individuals.

Kar Saathi and New Website As a Centralised Tax Hub

The recently launched website functions with the Kar Saathi AI chatbot, bringing together all direct tax information and services in one place. Now, taxpayers can access forms, notifications, calculators, and important updates through a clean, modern interface. The integration of Kar Saathi directly on the website supports navigating the portal.

The Income Tax Department explains the platform as a measure for digital transformation and simpler voluntary tax compliance. It is anticipated to lessen the reliance on physical offices and middlemen while enhancing the overall taxpaying experience.

Normally, the filing season of ITR starts in early June for the assessment year 2026-27. The launch of Kar Saathi and the new website is strategically timed to assist taxpayers in preparing better and filing returns seamlessly. The department expects the AI assistant to simplify the annual rush and reduce errors in filing.
