Two of the major government alliances The Indian Highways Management Company Ltd (IHMCL) and Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) have signed a memorandum of understanding which focused on the merger of FASTag with GST e-way bill system.
About FASTag – Visible on vehicle’s windscreen, FASTag is a reloadable tag/sticker which automatically deducts the charges as soon as the vehicle passes the toll booth. The mechanism does not bother cars to stop for payment on the toll booth.
The memorandum related to the merger of FASTag with the e-way bill mechanism is signed by the two government alliances in the ‘One Nation One FASTag conference’ which was inaugurated by the Road Transport and highway minister Nitin Gadkari. This new provision already has approval from the GST council.
The objective behind the provision – Provision allowing the integration of e-way bill mechanism with FASTag is invited by the legal authorities as they see this as a tool to track the movement of vehicles and make sure that they reach the same destination which they mentioned while generating the GST e-way bill.
The ‘One Nation One FASTag conference’ held with the aim of signing the MoU related to validating the provision was witnessed by state departments/other agencies for spreading a web of unified electronic tolling across the country. This means that the FASTag affixed to the windscreen of every vehicle now will be under the jurisdiction of legal authorities which will even provide seamless services to the consumer without much effort all across the nation.
