GST E Way Bill To Come in Different Form in Uttar Pradesh

GST E Way bill in UP

The main objective of introducing GST in India was to decrease Tax Evasions and increase Tax Compliance. The GST System is now more than six months old, but still, there is no decline in the number of vehicles carrying illegal and non-registered goods inside Uttar Pradesh. This has been a major concern for the Government. To curb this illegal and free flow of goods, the Government has now decided to reinstate 41 out of the 88 checkpoints that were closed in 2008 by the Commerce and Tax Department on the eve of the VAT regime. These checkpoints would be equipped with Radio Frequency ID (RFID) Reader. All transport vehicles entering the state would be fitted with special chips for tracking their movement. This will help the authorities to keep a vigilant eye on the delivery locations.

There have been increasing complains stating that vehicles carrying the goods do not deliver the goods to the mentioned cities or location. Rather, the goods are delivered to other districts of India’s largest state by population. In addition to this, there are complains of goods being delivered without any e-way bills. All these incidents prompted the government to take strong measures.

The officers of the department accompany will join representative of the RFID reader at these checkpoints. Orders have been circulated to nominate Nodal Officers for physical verification of the RFID reader installed on the check-post that come under his jurisdiction. The Nodal Officer has to send the verification report to the headquarter by 19th of this month. The work on the check-posts will commence as soon as the report is submitted.

As per Santosh Panama, Convenor of Uttar Pradesh Industry Business Welfare, the rules are good but often traders are exploited by Police Officers. In order to ensure that such incidents do not occur at the check-posts, guidelines must be issued to all officers in charge of these 41 check posts.
