Recently in a finding of African tourism reports, it was suggested that in the year 2017, there were a lesser number of tourists from India visited Africa, probably due to the recent demonetisation and goods and services tax. The official tourism authorities confirmed this fact that there was slow down in the incoming tourists from India.
South Africa Tourism’s acting head for India and South East Asia Alpa Jani stated that “South Africa witnessed a slowdown in terms of the number of bookings from Indians in 2017 as a result of demonetisation and the GST.”
As per the sources, India is considered to be the eight-country who visits Africa the most after various other like Britain, the US, Germany, China, Australia and the Netherlands.

Jani said that “We had expected around 100,000 Indian tourists visiting South Africa in 2017, but after the note ban we noticed that Indians were sceptical of travelling due to lack of cash.”
The 60 member team from South African Tourism department came for a multi-city road show in which they said they were expecting over 1 lakh Indian tourists to the famous Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg, a very popular destination among the tourists.
