Goa government is all set to enter the year 2020 with strict augmentations to curb tax evasionTax sleuths have planned a fresh crackdown on traders practising tax evasion of Goods and Services Tax (GST) by pursuing new registration for their businesses and growth in the percentage of the state’s revenue.

The meeting headed by State’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday included influential attendees from Finance and Commercial Tax Department primarily focused on reviewing the implementation of Goods and Service Taxes and revenue enhancement for the state in the commencing year.

From Goa Chief Minister’s office, “the crusade which is programmed for January 2020 will involve area personnel who will bring in front the deceivers involved in tax evasion. Those who are by law required to get their names registered as a taxpayer under GST lawSeveral changes have been made to the CGST Act, which will benefit the taxpayers in terms of ensuring compliance. The recent update in the different sections but are escaping from the tax levy”.

Analytics from July 2017 (the date of GST commencement in India) show that there were only 23,378 registered taxable persons in Goa against 40,139 taxable persons now.

Recently the government from all the states, as well as the central, were discussing several factors to curb tax evasion on all levels and partially succeeded through various means.

Earlier the government initiated several campaigns to catch the GST evaders by giving them the chance to disclose their tax amount and time to pay it. While there was an instance when they were forcibly tried to pay the GST.
