GST E-way Bill Not Mandatory Within 50 KM For Job Works In Rajasthan

E Way Bill Job Work

In a major relief to traders and transporters, the commercial tax department today freed transportation of goods pertaining to job work free of any e-way bill compliance provided the goods are being transported within 50 km of the point of sale.

Why the Exempt?

The exempt from the mandatory e-way bill is seen as a move that would accelerate business activities as well as reduce paperwork for industrial units.

Commercial tax commissioner Alok Gupta said, “As business units will not be required to generate e-way bills for transport of goods for job works commencing and terminating within 50 km, their compliance burden will be reduced.”

A Late Relief

The exempt has not come as a surprise because for quite some time now Federation of Rajasthan Trade and industry has been raising concern about the persistent difficulties faced by the city transporters. The press release from the Federation says, “It was an irritant in the process and finally the government realized it and removed it”.

The intra-state e-way bill was implemented in Rajasthan on May 20. By the end of May, the total number of e-way Bills generated in the 10 day period had crossed the 1 Lakh Mark. Unlike the early rickety days, the e-way bill system in the state is now stabilized and hassle-free. This is reflected in the number of queries and complaints received which has subsided since the earlier days of May.

GST Registration Window Re-Opens

The Another notification further re-opened the GST registration window for provisional identification number owners who failed to file or complete registration form 26. The GST registration window for such businesses is open till August 31. The state hopes to expand GST Taxpayer base by 1500-2000 during the period. Reportedly, since the introduction of the GST tax regime in July last year, there has been a recorded growth of 37% taxpayers in the state of Rajasthan.

Praveen Gupta, Secretary Revenue, State Finance Department, said “So far about 4.50 lakh dealers are in the GST network. We expect a further increase in the base as new taxpayers will join the system by August 31”.
